Reassessing Our Spirit in the New Year

od gives all of us gifts. Whether it’s artistic, oratorical, analytical, or athletic, we are given gifts to share with the world. However the gifts become criminal when we choose to keep our God given gifts to ourselves. Our gifts allow us to follow our dreams. Following your dreams requires one to break loses of the shackles of self doubt, procrastination and fear. So many times we talk ourselves out of things that we aspire to do. We convince ourselves that the time is not right.

Several months ago, I had an opportunity to speak with author Elaine Westbrook. She is the author of Spiritually Limping “I May Be Limping But I Am Still Walking.” Her book gives an inspirational and informative look how we should deal with our struggles while still remaining anointed. I spoke with her during her book signing at Inspirational Books in Southland Mall. I asked her why she decided to write her book. She stated that it was something she wanted to do for quite some time. “We tend to talk ourselves out of the things that we aspire to do. We tell ourselves that this or that needs to happen first. However, if you would just go ahead and do it, you will begin to see the power of God move those obstacles out of the way.”

As we are forming our own New Year’s resolutions, keep in mind the gifts that have been bestowed upon each and every one of us. Remember, “To whom much is given… much is required.”
