| The Ten Commandments
in Public Buildings
 esterday
as I stood out side my Pastor's office waiting to speak with him. I began
to focus on the copy of the Ten Commandments there on the wall. My mind
took me back to a period in my life that I had forgotten. I could see
Mrs. Leola holding her big black bible and directing my siblings and
I in memorizing bible verses. There was great excitement during those
teaching sessions especially if you remembered each of the Ten Commandments.
As a matter of fact, you could find the Ten Commandments displayed in
almost every home in those days. If you were found guilty of telling
a lie or stealing, you might hear a statement like this, “If you
lie, you will steal, if you steal, you will kill.” The violation
of the Ten Commandments was not tolerated during this time. You were
always reminded of the consequences of your “sins.” To this
day I believe the knowledge of the Ten Commandments has helped me make
some very key decisions in my life. Have I kept all the commandments?
No, but I have learned the most important commandment which is to,” Love
the Lord your God with all of your heart, mind, and soul.” It
is my position that if a man will seek after God that he will experience
the “ordering of his steps” by
the Lord.
Therefore let
us return to the practice of displaying the Ten Commandments in our homes
and teaching our children while they are young. This great document is
able to give life; to remove it from our public buildings is a travesty.
The only time many people today are exposed to the Ten Commandments is
when they enter a public building. And besides, how can man live without
God's instructions? I imagine there are those who are not familiar with
the author of these principles and find them offensive. But I find the
attack against this document unnecessary, an act of an Anti-Christ movement
that's swiftly attacking our nation today. The ACLU is not protecting my
rights when they propose to take away the Ten Commandments from public
buildings. It's a serious violation and I'm not going to sit around and
say nothing. I want the Ten Commandments to stay but what I want most of
all is for every believer to stand up. Pray for our country daily and put
a copy of the Ten Commandments up in your homes and offices.
